The charter of the WELS Health and Wellness Committee embraces the following:
- Parish Nursing
- Certification and co-ordination of Chaplain ministries
- Education, resources, and clearing house services for dementia sufferers and their caregivers
- The development of programs, aids and assistance to congregations interested in and with Senior Ministries
- The development of Senior Ministries to, by, and for seniors (2 X 4)
- The development of outreach materials, training, and support for Senior Evangelism
As a part of its regional and national scope the WELS Health and Wellness committe will utilize the full complement of communication media including this blog, its website, and the many variations of hard copy materials available.
Recent SMC meeting
On September 20-21 the SMC executive committee and the district co-ordinators of the Special Ministries Commission (SMC) of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod met in Milwaukee, WI to share the work they were doing in their various WELS districts, and to be informed about new ways and means being developed and used to continue to serve God's people with the various types of ministry that are on-going parts of the WELS.
Recent WELS Health and Wellness Committee meeting
On September 14, 2006 an organizational/informational meeting was held at Crown of Life Lutheran Church in West St. Paul, MN. An introductory essay was presented by Pastor Frederick Kogler entitled:
The underlying social/economic impetus for addressing the current issues of Health and Wellness within the church.
An overview of the committee's charter was undertaken and an animated and interesting discussion followed. The schedule and location for future meetings was determined. Meetings will be held at Crown of Life Lutheran Church on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 7-8:30 PM.
